Parking and School Traffic

Please follow the signage as you enter the high school site.  Students, families and visitors should utilize Lot A (main lot in front of the building) & Lot E (the parking lot near the Fine Arts Center and across from the soccer field).

Families dropping students off at HHS are asked to not pass the barricade and to maintain the driveway access at the very front of our building entrance for safety and security of our specialized services and emergency personnel: first responders, paramedics, fire department and our police department. (See image below).  Please be mindful of the pedestrian crosswalks on the premises.

We want to remind everyone that cars parked in “No Parking” zones marked with a sign or yellow paint on the curbing may be ticketed and possibly towed.

ASVAB Testing Information

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests are designed to measure
aptitudes in four domains: Verbal, Math, Science and Technical, and Spatial. The computerized
ASVAB (called the CAT-ASVAB) is an adaptive test, which means that the test adapts to your
ability level. The computer software selects items that are suitable for you based on your
responses to earlier items in the test. Because the CAT-ASVAB is targeted toward your ability
level, it is possible to administer a shorter test than is used in the paper and pencil
administration. The average examinee takes about 1 1/2 hours to complete.

Results for the ASVAB are then mailed to Student Services’ Office and the testing
proctor does review students results with them at a later date. This is a great opportunity for
students to learn about their skill level and different jobs they should consider for their future.

Holmen High School offers the computerized version of the ASVAB. The test will be on
October 20th, 2023 starting at 8:00am in the Library Classroom. The ASVAB is known as a
military entrance exam but we also encourage many of our students to take this FREE test who
are unsure what they want to do after High School.

Holmen High School does not release any test scores to the military. This is something
your student could access and forward to a recruiter. If your student is interested in taking the
ASVAB, please have them stop in student services to sign up. If you have additional questions,
please reach out to your students' school counselor.

Thank you,

Wayne Sackett
Principal

“Bad Auditions by Bad Actors”: A Short Comedy One Act play originally written by Ian McWethy. The show runs about 45 minutes which is competition length for fall performances. In the play, a casting director Carol Danes (played by Echo Guest) is given the task of casting the lead roles in the iconic play “Romeo and Juliet”. In the beginning, she is confident that she can find a Romeo and a Juliet by the end of the week. Her confidence starts to dwindle when she watches the auditions of people. As each new personality arrives on the stage, the cast of Bad Auditions by Bad Actors will make sure that the play lives up to its name, showing the many ways to fail an audition. Alongside her much less eager assistant, Roger, played by Hayden Englerth. Carol is soon dismayed to find that the auditioners range from talentless to completely unhinged. The show features an array of quirky characters and the actors excel at making each auditioner memorable to the audience.  A night of laughter and fun awaits!

Show times are: Friday, October 20th @ 7 PM and Saturday, October 21st at 7 PM  Tickets are available at the door.  Students $5.00 and Adults $10.00.  **Bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the local food pantry!

State Theatre UW-Greenbay Nov. 16-18th 2023    https://www.wisdaa.org/state-theatre/

Holmen Theatre will be participating in the One Act competition season this fall.  We strive to stand out at state with our show, our tech, and our crew.  We also have several students participating in the Thespy competition this season and are excited to experience all it has to offer! The Thespy Competition is an additional opportunity for individuals, duets, or small groups (3-16 students) in acting, musical theatre, musical theatre dance, and technical design portfolio events. To give students an opportunity to practice and get feedback, we are holding an open, online-only Thespy contest in mid-October (video due 10/17, adjudication Oct. 19-21); and the State-level contest both virtually and in-person at the State Theatre Festival at UW-Green Bay, on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023.

The WISDAA organization welcomes middle and high schools to be among the 1,800 high school students who gather each year for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Theatre Festival (#witf) — held since 1930 — for three days packed with workshops featuring trained professionals, one-act and individual event contest performances, showcase productions, and exhibitors from theatre vendors to collegiate programs.

                                    Join High School Forensics!

Get involved today!  See Mrs. Roswall at the high school if interested.   Interscholastic academic/performing arts sports, such as One-Act Theatre, Speech, Debate, and Film, are stepping stones to success. Speech and performance are lifelong skills that are fostered through local and state contests of the WISDAA.   Forensics is a team that allows flexibility with other activities, where students can make friends, challenge themselves, and build their confidence.  Holmen Forensics stands out as a team that is dedicated and recognized for its overall accomplishments in our district. We have a wonderful coaching team that drives our success. We compete in local events with the end goal of attending the State speech competition in mid-April, held on the UW Madison Campus.
